Browsers
Internet Explorer
This web site performs best when viewed with IE 5 or greater. Our experience with IE5.x running Windows 98 or greater on numerous computers has been relatively trouble free and smooth with this site and the web in general. We recommend this browser for maximum performance on this web site.
Netscape 4.7x
This site is compatible with Netscape 4.7x, however the performance is
sometimes slow and less than optimal.
The browser slows on scripted pages. To bypass some of the script processing you may wish to turn off Java support for navigation menus and message panels. To do so,
follow this procedure. Do not turn off the support for JavaScript
(a separate language from Java). Doing so will render portions of the site inoperable.
Netscape 6.0
The
New Netscape 6.0 displays the site much faster and better than 4.7x. In
November of 2000, initial reviews of Netscape 6.0 warned of significant bugs in the browser.
However, in May of 2001 we installed and used version 6.01 with no
problems. How it would work on your system may vary.
Opera
We've heard some good things about Opera, but have not tried it.
They now provide their browser at no charge, making it an attractive
option to more users. Opera is standards compliant and therefore should
display this website with grace and ease.
Web TV
The site works in limited fashion with Web TV. It's a real vanilla
site missing all the backgrounds, color and formatting since this site incorporates
the use of style sheets and Web TV does not support them. There has been
one report of the discussion forums not working properly with WebTV. Web
TV is a technology frozen in time without any planned upgrade path to
support advances in web and software design and therefore will continue to
lose functionality as technology moves on.
